Sinópse: Excerpt from Lettres de Mon Moulin This edition of eight of Daudet’s Lettres de mon M oalin is the outcome of an experiment in language teaching which was carried out in a French course attended by some zoo students at Smith College. The experiment consisted in abandoning the composition book in favor of texts, and in basing upon the texts all the vocabulary, grammar, composition, and oral work. The results obtained were gratifying. T he students showed keener interest in their language studies; they learned to read their texts more closely; they changed their attitude toward the study of grammar when they understood it to be a kind of physiology of the living language; and they acquired greater flexibflity and accuracy in their use of French. My colleagues tell me that the effects of those improvements were also noticeable in the literature work done by the same studentä.
